Balancing Self & Society : Wellness Architecture for Individual & Shared Growth

For my thesis project, I wanted to focus on something that resonated with my personal goals and academic interests. As my undergraduate degree was in Sociology, mental health and personal systems have always been of great importance to me. I decided to research wellness architecture and its effects on mental health.

After a lot of research, I came to the idea of creating a wellness center that would foster community, individualism, and in turn, support mental health - moving to rectify the worldwide epidemic of declining psychological well-being.

I created a plan for a wellness center proposed at 585 Commercial Street in Boston’s North End. With a focus on self and community productivity, the center features garden plots, a community kitchen, a co-working library, fitness studios, and a communal pool.
